This book is a quick read, but contains the same old information that has been passed down for years. Be responsible, return phone calls, do annual reviews, and you can't succeed without a good Farmers District Manager. Write high end clients, not low end, be likable and use a process to cross sell. Oh, Make sure you always answer the phone. In the event your carrier doesn't pay then write a $18,000 check out of your own pocket? Are you kidding me? If your carrier says it's covered then denies it, I recommend that you find a new carrier partner! Hard work and having a vision is a way to grow an agency which is also mentioned but I found no real solutions or big takeaways. Instead it seems very geared to making a Farmers Career sound better.

This is a must read to for any insurance professional. I've been an agent for 4 years and this Boone have really helped me with some basic fundamentals to be able to run my business more successfully. I purchased this book since it seemed the best organized, but after reading it, I'm disappointed. The information and recommendations are extremely general, and didn't add any value to me. As an example, the authors combine details of the 7 stages of Alzheimer's into 2 categories - 1-to-4 and 5-to-7 without getting into the granularities of each stage. The basic message I got was, "If you get to stage 5-7, you're hosed." Frankly, the Alzheimer Association's website has more pertinent information with more valuable solutions - and it's free. Maybe the subtitle, "A First-Time Caregiver's Plan," should have been a hint for me not to purchase the book since I've been a caregiver for some time (yeah, right in the eye of the "hosed" storm), but even for soon-to-be caregivers, I would recommend other resources. You really need to jump into the trees rather than just see the forest even at the early stages of Alzheimer's.

My goal in reading this book is to gain information and clarity in making my mom as comfortable as possible in this life. This onset of Alzheimer can be scary and heart breaking if you do not know what you are looking at, doing or understand the illness. The love one does not mean any harm. If they do not remember, or They cannot help it. Alzheimer's wipes the memory away completely. That has to sad not just for the parent, but the child. I just wanted to learn all I can and this book is one of the most helpful reads ever!!!

David Emory Shi is a professor of history and the president emeritus of Furman University. He is the author of several books on American cultural history, including the award-winning The Simple Life: Plain Living and High Thinking in American Culture and Facing Facts: Realism in American Thought and Culture, 1850–1920.

George Brown Tindall spent many years on the faculty of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was an award-winning historian of the South with a number of major books to his credit, including The Emergence of the New South.
